It's July and we’re experiencing the first heatwave of the summer in the northeast U.S. Most of us can use a reminder to drink more water. Why? 60% of the human body is composed of it. And we can’t live very long without it — a few days to a week at most.

No matter what the temperature outside, a good rule of thumb is to drink half your body weight in ounces of water each day. So, if you weigh 150 pounds, try to get in 75 ounces each day, perhaps more when physically exerting and/or outside in the heat. Make it plain water. So, when counting ounces, don’t include the water that’s in your coffee, iced tea, juice, sodas, wine or other beverages. But if you want some electrolytes, sure, add a pinch or two of Himalayan or Celtic Sea Salt for all the good minerals it contains. I do not recommend Gatorade because of all the sugar and chemicals.

It’s best to drink the purest water available. I don’t recommend drinking water straight from the tap. Get yourself some kind of water filter, any kind, and run your water through it before you drink. Eventually, if you want to invest in a reliable filter, take a look at berkeyfilters.com. They are reasonably priced, stand alone filters you fill up manually with a pitcher. I have one at home and a new one at Center for Nutritional Healing.for our clients and staff to enjoy.

If you have a question about the safety of any source of water you consume, whether it be tap, filtered, bottled, spring, well or whatever, bring a sample or two to an appointment with me and, with Nutrition Response Testing, I'll test the water on your body to determine whether it's helping or hurting you. I invite you to schedule an evaluation today or come to one of our free health seminars for more information on what we do and how we do it. Click here to be in touch or call us at 484-938-7691.

In the meantime, get a stainless steel or glass container (preferably not plastic please) and get in the habit of drinking a healthy amount of water throughout the day, less with meals, more between.

To your health!
